Honolulu Forms Sister City Bond with Tokyo’s Shibuya
Honolulu has embarked on a new chapter of international collaboration with the official designation of Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, as its 36th Sister City. This announcement further strengthens Honolulu’s ties with Japan, marking the 10th Sister City partnership established within the nation.
The historic signing ceremony held at Honolulu Hale solidified the agreement between Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi and Honolulu City Council Chair Tommy Waters, with Shibuya City Mayor Ken Hasebe and Chair of the City Assembly, Takashi Maruyama, representing Shibuya.
The Sister City agreement paves the way for vibrant cultural exchanges, enhanced economic cooperation, and the sharing of best practices between Honolulu and Shibuya. This collaboration signifies a commitment from both cities to cultivate international friendships and strengthen bonds on a global scale.
